- Instrumentation Engineer
- Hampton, VA
Provide applicable instrumentation engineering techniques to support wind tunnel and laboratory test operations. Position requires applicant to apply techniques associated with designing strain gauges or sensors that capture data about the safety, efficiency, and reliability of industrial applications used in a testing environment; developing configuration scripts, programming applications; developing and applying test procedures; troubleshooting programmable logic controller’s issues; and installing, managing and/or maintaining instruments to include measurement devices, flow meters, thermocouples, strain gauges, and other instruments use in a test environment. Performs project level assignment that involve complex features. Investigates equipment and system failures and recommend and/or implement corrective action. Accomplishes, completes tasks of limited scope and solves problems which require investigation of a number of variables. Additional support includes trouble shooting problems, incorporating changes into existing hardware and software, designing, implementing, intergrading systems into the data system. The employee must be a self-motivated individual that is capable of prioritizing assignments and meeting deadlines.
U.S. Citizenship required; a bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical, or a math-related field. Graduate-level degrees is a plus. Possess a strong aptitude for math and physics, communication skills, and ability to translate project needs into the design and development of hardware suitable for the task.
Office environment. (50-65%) Test/industrial Environment- May be exposed to areas of high noise levels, hazardous propellants, explosives, chemicals and industrial facilities. Travel between facilities and test sites is required.
Travel between various facilities/test operations is required and may bring exposure to loud noise and potentially hazardous equipment operation.
Regular attendance mandatory (100%)
Occasional Overtime/work outside normal schedule required. (<10%)
